Peel Park Fisheries – Committed to Healthy Eating

We all look after our health these days, and a healthy, balanced diet is a major part of a healthy body. That statement might sound odd coming from a ‘fast food takeaway’ but Fish & Chips is one of the healthiest ‘fast’ foods’ around.

I believe that having a treat is an essential part of a healthy diet, it’s like the studies that say that a glass of red wine a day is good for you – a take away is something to look forward to as a treat.

Fish & Chips is already a healthy option when it comes to a take away – Fish contains nutrients, vitamins and Omega-3, which has numerous benefits for the body. We are told that eating seafood twice a week is better for us.

We also have a number of initiatives to promote healthier eating:

  • Poached Fish, ideal for coeliacs, vegetarians who eat fish or anyone not wanting batter.
  • Our Small Fish & Chips is ideal for those with a lighter appetite.
  • Mushy Peas are soaked overnight and slow-cooked each day with a little salt and sugar for flavouring. They count as one of your five a day.
  • Heinz Baked Beans these are both low salt and high fibre, and also count as one of your five a day.
  • Our sausages are made of 70% meat, where most brands have as little as 40%.
  • Our scampi is wholetail rather than reformed scampi parts.
  • Our Chicken Nuggets are 51% chicken, the remainder mainly being the coating.
  • Teacakes are available dry on request if you don’t want any spread.
  • LoSalt is an alternative to regular salt with one third the sodium and added potassium, both of which are better for you. We also have packs to take home!
  • We sell Diet Coke, as well as water and fruit juice cartons.
  • We also sell Shmoo milkshakes, which are 99% fat free, low in sugar, have no artificial colours, sweeteners or preservatives, contain 30% RDA of calcium, are Gluten free and  suitable for vegetarians.
  • All of our children’s meals also come with a carton of natural Fruit Juice.

So remember, a treat is good for you, but taking advantage of any of these options, it could even be better for you!

As always, we welcome feedback from our customers, and would love to hear your views on this or any other aspects of the shop.
